Candle care & safety

The first burn matters

Burn until the melt pool reaches the edge of the vessel — usually two to three hours. Wax has a memory: a short first burn leaves a tunnel that the candle will follow for the rest of its life.

Every burn after that

• Trim the wick to about a quarter of an inch before lighting.
• Never burn for more than four hours at a time.
• Stop when about half an inch of wax remains.
• Keep the pool clear of trimmings and matches.

Safety

Never leave a burning candle unattended, near anything that can catch, or within reach of children or animals. Burn on a heat-resistant surface. The glass gets hot — let it cool fully before moving it.

Diffusers

Turn the reeds once a week for a consistent throw. Keep the bottle off finished wood and away from direct sun; the oil will mark a lacquered surface if it is spilled.

After the candle

Warm water and a little washing-up liquid will lift the last of the wax. The vessels are designed to be kept.
